The Wonderful World of the 3DS

June 6th, 2011

In honor of the release of the firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS today (the one everybody with a 3DS has been waiting for since March; the one Nintendo reffered to as a "late-May update"), I decided to post some of the fun stuff I've done with the 3DS's camera mode and it's Augmented Reality Cards. Despite the somewhat lack of content, this stuff is pretty cool if I don't say so myself. If you're a proud 3DS owner, you can download these pictures to put on your 3DS and view them in 3D yourself, unlike the rest of these shmucks who will have to settle for the 2D images. Poor them

What a beautiful image to start with - me! I'm pretty sure the first thing every 3DS owner did in camera mode was take a picture of themselves like this, or at least all of the egotistical and concited ones like me did. In any case, this was the first 3D picture I ever took. Tah-dah!

Like always however, my little brother Carter manages to be cooler than me. This one is awesome. Compared to this one, you can't even tell the previous picture is in 3D.

Before I show you the next one, let me just say for those of you who don't have a 3DS and thus wouldn't know, there's a feature in it's camera mode where you lign up your face with one camera and another person with the otehr cameras, and then it takes a picture of your face on their body. It's kinda cool, and has produced some pictures that have been... well, disturbing at best.

See what I mean?

Other than taking weird 3D pictures and freaky smash-ups of people, the 3DS lets you use the Augmented Reality Cards that came with the system to take 3D pictures of your environment with things like your Miis added in. They aren't really there, of course... but it sure looks cool! And it's fun to pose them around. Here is just one example of my little Mii making first contact with my big Mii. Um, after typing that out that sounds a lot stranger then I intended, but there's no way I'm changing it now.

Pictured here is me and my best bud/co-administrator JustIrie. This is how happy we would be in real life if we found a can of that size compared to us. We sure love the DK... and yes, DK stands for diet coke. Because DC just sounds like Washington. And who wants to drink any of that sewage water?

Hey... who's that on my laptop? That's certainly not me! Nor is it mii! Although, as long as she's here and nobody else is around...

When you're only this big, it can be a struggle even to roll a dice. This would make me and JustIrie's life significantly more difficult.

Of course, when your this it would appear that all your friends and aquaintences think your some kind of giant Godzilla style monster, and begin fighting you accordingly. Hey - can you guess which forum members each of those tiny mii's are?

Here's where I got a little silly. The 3DS's Augmented Reality Cards are the perfect excuse to bust out some of those old toys you never play with anymore!

My trip to Free Country, USA started off great! I got a high five from Strong Bad and everything... I think I made him feel short though, which he didn't like very much, and I soon had to move on and find new company.

Like Coach Z. It didn't take long for him to gross me out to the point of tears though, and I soon moved on.

Strong Sad. He... made me sad. With all his boring talk of the end of the world and darkness and death and sadness, I couldn't take it anymore. I just curled up a little and started to cry. He didn't seem to care though; he just kept on talking in that monotonous voice of his.

Soon his friend Homsar showed up though and then things just got weird.

I even got a chance to race Homestar Runner while I was there. Don't worry, even though it looks like I was about to lose in this picture, I won in the end. How you ask? Well, you see Strong Bad and The Cheat behind that bush?

I kinda worked something out with them before hand. Man do these guys jump at any chance to humiliate and/or cause physical harm to Homestar there. I didn't even have to give them anything in return!

All in all my stay in Free Country, USA was pretty awesome. I leave you know with one last picture, a personal favorite of mine. See you next time!

And if you own a 3DS and want your very own TheTylor mii, you can use the QR code below to get one! Don't say I never did anything for you.
